We have just installed Arcserve 9 on a netware 6 server. it installs fine but we try to run Astart on the console we get error 21029 - invalid job que error. any suggestions?!

thanks

I forgot most everything I knew about NetWare but this is from the CA support site and might help.

Error 21029
E21029 Server does not have valid job queue user for ARCserve

Module: Pre-flight Check

Explanation:

1. PFC determined that the ARCserve job queue is either corrupted, or that the user does not have enough rights

2. The server's internal IPX number was changed after the ARCserve installation

3. The message 'NLS directory is not in your PATH' was ignored during the ARCserve installation

4. The ASTART6 command was issued immediately after installing ARCserve on a NetWare 4.x server (The system may be in a transitional state while synchronization of the NDS database occurs.)

5. Novell's NETSYNC utility can cause problems with the ARCserve 6 queue

Cause/Solution:

Use the AS6UTIL utility that ships with ARCserve to create/delete the queue. You can find it in \ARCSERVEHOME\UTILITY. You will need to run AS6UTIL.EXE at a workstation or use AS6UTIL.NLM at the server console....or...

In NWADMIN, delete the AS_BACKUP_SERVER object and the AS6_SERVERNAME queue object and then recreate the ARCserve Queue and ARCserve Queue Server objects.

If you cannot view, delete, or create the two object classes, do the following:

1. Copy ASSNAPIN.DL_ and ASSNAPIN.HL_ from Disk 3 on the CD-ROM to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Use DOS's EXPAND.EXE to expand to files to ASSNAPIN.DLL and ASSNAPIN.HLP

2. Modify the NWADMIN.INI file in WINDOWS\SYSTEM to include the following lines:

[ARCserve]

manager1=C:\ARCSERVE.6\ARCSERVE.EXE <or full path to mamager>

[SnapinObjectDLL]

assnapin=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM <or full path to assnapin.dll>

Creating the objects:

1. In NWADMIN, highlight the container freom which the objects were deleted

2. Select Object and click Create

3. From the Class of New Objects menu, select ARCserve Queue Server (or ARCserve Queue) and click OK

For the AS_BACKUP_SERVER object:

a. From the Create ARCserve Queue Server menu, double click on the icon next to the Server/Volume area

b. From the Select Object menu window, double-click on the volume in which ARCserve was initially installed (under the Directory Context section)

c. Double-click on the ARCserve Home Directory (under Objects) and select Create

For the AS6_SERVER queue object:

a. From the Create ARCserve Queue menu, click Create

b. From the ARCserve Queue: AS6_servername menu, click Create
