hi there,

i was testing brick level restore today when i discovered that permissions that i had assigned various folders were not restored.

Is this by design or a problem with ARCserve brick level restore? [ponder]

Any hints are deeply appreciated.
Cheers..

Brick level backup currently on backs up properties of mail items (journal, calendar etc). It remembers the folder structure but does not remember the properties of the folders. So if you were to restore the Calendar folder to a different location, it would actually be created as a mail folder. You would need to create a folder and specify that it will be a calendar folder. When I tried it, the restore would then create a mail folder in the calendar folder and I would need to manually select all items and move them to the calendar folder and delete the mail folder created.

The restore itself was no problem. The only thing that I missed, after a successful brick level restore, was permissions that i had assigned.

Permissions assigned to folders are not properties that are backed up.
