Arcserve 9.01 slow backups

I am running Arcserve 9.01 on W2K SP3. I am getting very slow backups (60 Mb/min local and 15-20 Mb/min from agents). I have a feeling that it is my virus scanning slowing it down at least to some degree. Can anyone tell me what I would need to exclude to keep the on-access scanner from scanning every file that comes in during a backup? Thanks

Check out first by just disabling the virus scanner and do a test backup.
What you also can try is putting the virusscanner into incoming only modus instead of incoming AND outgoing
