I just finished installing/upgrading Arcserve from 7.0 to 9.0 Build 2020. I upgraded the NT client agent on some of my servers to test out the new version. In Arcserver manager, when in the backup window, i select the servers with the new client installed on them and try to login, I get a "Failed to login to the Agent" error message. My old version worked and no changes were made to the domain. I have tried using the domain administrator's id, the local administrators's id as well as my dedicated domain arcserve id and I still cannot login to servers with the new client on them. I can however login to my servers with the 7.0 version of the NT client on them from the new/upgraded arcserve backup server. The nt clients were installed using the remote install option.

My server platform is Windows 2000 SP4 on all servers.

Any Ideas??? CA has not been able to help as of yet.

HI,

On the CLient agetn admin on your client machines..
Modify the security to "Password security" and give a password

Now from the backup manager....
right-click on the client machine\security...

type in the password u had given... user name is irrelevant

this should works.

cheers

I tried your suggestion, after I went to the backup manager and right-clicked on the client machine/security however, I cannot type in the password only without putting in a user name, the OK button is grayed out until a user name is in place. Also, if you were to go into backup and select a client machine, you can select the machine, but you cannot expand it to look at the lower levels unless you put in a user name and password.

For right now, I am not using the client agent, instead I am going through the microsoft network and am able to backup my boxes that way. I am still looking for a way to make the client agent work however!!!

Thanks for your help,

When you are putting in a password at the client agent you can enter any user name on the server. As long as the password on the server matches the password on the agent it will work.

Try deleting one of the targets and then add it back.
Try using DNS instead of the specific IP address.

I finally have the answer to my question. The problem was with the Checkpoint firewall (NG version)and port 6050. Arcserve helpdesk kept on stating that this port needed to be open. The port was open, but only one way. The other part that was even more important was that the protocol X11, which Arcserve uses, is by default NOT a part of the ANY group in Checkpoint under protocols. It has to be specified in addition to ANY in your rule in order for Arcserve to work.

Thanks to everyone who responed to my question
