Arcserve 7 SDLT

I have a compaq 110/220 SDLT, with Arcserve 7 as backup, running on a Proliant. Backups are not consistant, with days of success, and then failure. The hardware has all been changed with new equipment. does anyone please have some advice as to the possible cause of this error.
