Running ARCserve 7.0, build 218 for Netware.
I cannot get the manager to run on any win9x machine that is running ONLY tcpip. Don't seem to have any problem with win9x machines running tcpip and IPX. On those, manager runs fine.

I've modified the hosts file to resolve to the arcserve server. I've tried a bunch of things (even calling CA, hah...that was a laugh). The manager comes back saying that there is no common protocol between the host and the machine running manager.

Any ideas folks?

Well, there was a couple of problems with CA support on this issue.

1) We had to pay, even though we had just purchased the product.

2) I could barely understand the tech I was assigned (very heavy accent)

3) That tech's solution was either to run manager on Win2k or run it on a win9x system running IPX. I already knew that both configurations worked when I called!

4) The tech just did not seem to know the product very well at all.

FYI

Release Notes File:

- IP only support has been implemented. If you are running in a mixed NetWare environment of 4x and 5x servers, the host server MUST be a 5x server running both IP and IPX protocols. This will allow you to backup all of the NetWare servers. There is a file called ASRPC.log in the ARCserve manager directory that will show you the protocol that ARCserve is using to communicate with your servers, if you are experiencing response time issues, please verify that you are communicating via IP using this log file. See the section on IPX/SPX connections for required changes to the Registry for SPX connections.

The manager can be installed on any NT4 Workstation or Server, SP5 or above, Windows 2000 running the Novell Client version 4.7x or above, or Windows 98 workstation running Novell Client version 3.3 or above.

One very important thing guys is to make sure that you can ping the arcserve's hosts name. If you can't do this then either try adding the host server to the manager using pure ip, or input the host name into a host file or DNS.

Just some thoughts,

g
