We installed Novell 5.1 with Arcserve 7 on a Dell 2550 server in February of 2002. Have just had our second instance of database corruption. Current error messages: "E1039 Failed to flush Tape Driver buffer - Drive or Media Failure." (Problem is not with tape..we've tried others and also ran cleaning tape.) Also: E"4205 Arcserve database file ASJOB.DB failed on integrity check." Novell support suggests "if the error message indicates ASJOB.DB, then with ARCserve running at the server console prompt type: ASDB F=ASJOB.DB. The repair will run immediately. A separate screen will display the status of the repair." I did this and nothing runs and no messages appear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The error with ASJOB basically means the Arcserve database is shafted. Although it can be fixed, I always replace the database.
To do this, run ASTOP at the console to stop Arcserve. Then, from a PC, delete the contents of the ARCSERVE\DATABASE directory. Copy the contents of ARCSERVE\EMPTYDB to ARCSERVE\DATABASE and restart Arcserve by typing ASTART on the server console. The database will be a brand new database so any records will be removed and a tape merge will have to be done to restore data from previous backups.

Hi,
Because Arcserve database files are linked, you cannot repair just the database that is announced as corrupt. You must also repair the linked databases. See CA Document Number: 10125 on how to troubleshoot/repair their databases and which are linked to each other.
