I have a brand new Dell Poweredge 1600SC at one of my customer sites. It has a DLT drive that is supported by Brightstor Arcserve 2000 Workgroup edition on to the CA website. In Arcserve I cannot get it to recognize the backup device. This is a Windows 2000 Server, which is a domain controller. In the Device Manager the tape drive appears to be installed correctly. Arcserve can see the SCSI id that the tape drive is on but it will not see the drive in the device wizard. I know on ArcserveIT that you did not use the WinNT drivers on NT server. I have tried this with and without the drivers installed. All of the Arcserve engines start and operate properly.Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Hi there,

Had something similar, I believe. Check the following:

1. Make sure the Windows 2000 Remote Storage service is disabled

2. Use the ArcServe utility to have it gain "full control" over the device.

3. Check the SCSI order

These two things were temp fixes for us, in the end, the only way to make it work was to disable the RMS service shortly after reinstalling ArcServe completely.

Good luck :)
