Hello,

I Use ARCServe2000 on a Windows 2000 server (Compaq with Compaq DLT IV). We backup daily with no problems (at least, it doesn't tell me we have any...)

However, when I try to restore something, the restore job get's put in the Job queue but never starts. I've tried the wizard and normal, <run now> or give it a specific date/time. But the job just adds up in the job queue with status "READY" and doesn't do a damn thing. It doesn't give any clue in the activity log. Nothing.

What could be causing this? Anyone know a solution? Cause I sure hope I don't have to really restore something right now :-( ...

Regards,
Jos Janssen

If I understand you correctly, you can create the restore job and send it to the server where it shows as ready but it never goes active. You have checked time & date to run (which the default is the time & date job is created). At this point logins or which tape is loaded is not relevant until the job actually starts (goes
Active). When that job is sitting in the Arcserve Scheduler module at the server console goto View Job Queue/Statistics (showing restore job in Ready status) press enter (with restore job highlighted) and check execution date & time, if they still look correct change the execution date to a date in the past (like last month, double check the year) then press F2 to save it. Watch to see if it goes active.

If job still doesn't go to active, try a manual restore. At the main Scheduler screen chose Restore NetWare Server, put in username (with appropriate rights) and password > press F2 to login. Arrow down to [Destination] Restore Path: press <insert>, walk the path until you get where you want and press F5 to mark it. esc back, fill in report file name, press F2. See if anything happens in Job Queue window.

Let us know.

Good luck,

Mark ;-)

Hello Marc,

Thanks for your suggestions. However, we don't run ARCServe on Netware but on Windows2000 so some things you suggest just won't work with our version of ARCServe.

But one thing proved to be helpfull:
I created a restore job and scheduled it in the past. Still the job didn't get active right away.
But when I stopped the Job scheduler and restarted it, the job got up and running.

Of course, this is not the way to go for normal operation. So any more suggestions are welcome.

Regards,
Jos

check you arcserve user. it should be a member of administrator, domain Admin, (if you‘re in a domain) and backup operator groups.

You are not using Terminal Services to manage ARCserve are you?
If you try and set up a job using Terminal Sevices from a NT client to the W2K server/Arcserve manager then the jon will not start without stopping and starting the engines.

Ahh, this is my problem! I am using Arcserver2000 on Windows2000 Advanced Server, and any jobs created at the server work no problem, but anything i create using a Terminal Server Session does not execute, and i cannot view the status of jobs that are running when in a terminal.

Is this something that can be fixed?

YEah, it wont work through temrinal services..... You have to apply this patch... QO08105.CAZ

let me know how this goes...

ArcserveGuru, I tried your suggestion.....applied SP3 and then the patch QO08105.CAZ. I am stil unable to view Job Properties through Terminal Services. The jobs DOES runwhen submitted but am unable to monitor the job(Job Properties). Did this work successfully with you?

Unable to monitor the job? Hmmmm must mean that it is something else. Make sure the ARCserve services are set to "Allow service to interact with desktop". This may be why you can't see the properties pop-up. hmmmm.... If this doesn't work let me know.
