Arcserve 2000 v.7.0 Serial numbers blank

I hope someone can help. I've inherited a Arcserve2000 backup server running with a Dell Powervault changer.

The backups mostly run OK... some errors, etc., however whenever I try to use a brand new tape the serial number is not displayed. I use manually applied serial numbers and I expected the formatting process to format the tape, read the barcode and assign the barcoded serial number to the tape. Whenever I go to the export screen to unload the tape the serial number is blank. My older tapes all reflect the serial number of the barcode.

What step am I missing? Thank you!

Check for the serial number in the Database media view and the device manager window to see if it shows up there.
