I have to extend a very gracious hand to Jim Harrison with Computer Associates who contacted me direct following a post I made here 2 weeks ago concerning Arcserve. Jim saw to it that I had a support contract in place and arranged a support associate to walk through my problem with me. We managed to correct the issue and the server now functions as per the documentation.
To the group, I shared with Jim some of my concerns about Arcserve. He assured me that this information is noted, so hopefully we'll see improvements with future CA products.
