My machine is a Dell PowerEdge 6450, 4x cpus, 4gb ram, ton of drive space with Arcserve 2000. The backups seem to run fine. No errors anywhere, but when you go to do a restore sometimes part of the drive structure is missing, even though the backup logs said everything is fine. I have tried merging these backups on other servers and get the same thing. Its like the backup is completing, but the info is not being written to the tape. Anyone had any issues like this? Thanks

It is hard to tell without knowing what is missing. Certain files that are always in use will not be backed up. One such file is the page file for memory. I have seen instances where this file was 1 Gig and the amount of data backed up was always 1 Gig less that what would be reported from Windows when viewing the same drive.

If you are running Windows 2000 and ARCserve or the Windows Client agent is on the machine, WFP files will not be backed up during drive level backups. So if you were to locally setup a backup job of just the boot.ini file (locally or through the Windows agent), the result would be a successful back with 0 files backed up and 0 kb written to tape. WFP files can only be backed up through the system state. If the same drive were backed up throgh the network witout an agent, it is treated as a mapped drive and would not be noted as a WFP file and the backup will attempt to get the file.

hi
try installing acrserve v7 (as2000) SP4 and all the patches after this. We had the same problem you never know that the restore will fail until you try it . following sp4 install no problems (well a lot less problems)

HOPE THIS HELPS
