Arcserve 2000 Licensing Error

After a recent server rebuild, I needed something that would enable me to perform tape backups. After some digging around, I found an unused copy of Arcserve 2000 plus a valid license key. The installation went perfectly and I've been successfully running backups for the past three weeks.

Yesterday though I hit a problem. In the Application Event Viewer and also in the Arcserve log, I'm getting an error message that the Arcserve license will expire in 10 days, please contact my sales rep. Needless to say, CA aren't interested as they stopped supporting this product several years ago.

When I performed the original installation, I used the RegIT.exe program to update the license keys and this appeared to work successfully (this is confirmed by entries in the regit.log file). I've also downloaded a later version of the registration software from CA and tried re-registering the keys which also appears to be successful. However, I still get these warning messages that the license will expire.

Can anyone provide guidance?

Hi David,

Thanks for the swift response. I have valid licenses for the base product and the open files option. Both seem to have registered correctly using Regit.

The exact message in Event Viewer is:

'CA Licensing -3NUB (null) - License expired. Please contact your account representative to renew your license. 01 January 2009 LRF=3NUB, 000bcd22d656, PC_1586_2_2385, SECPLUS11, 1'

Yet in the regedit.log file, for the same module (3NUB, backup agent for open files)

I see:

12/02/08 12:33:38 RegIT (Online): ARCserve 2000 Advanced Edition Online Registration initialization in progress.
12/02/08 12:33:38 RegIT (Online): ARCserve 2000 Advanced Edition Registration ID = 0059029296369437 Product code = 3NUB CustomerID = 13964589 Zipcode = st14 7az

12/02/08 12:33:52 RegIT (Online): ARCserve 2000 Backup Agent for Open Files for NT/2000 This product has been successfully registered. (rc = 0)

Which seems to indicate that the initial license registration was successful.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated....

Update: Sorry, the 3NUB code refers to the ARCserve 2000 Advanced Edition, not the Open Files Agent but both appear to have registered correctly.

Registration is different that licensing. It is just providing the user information for who is using the particular copy of ARCserve. I'm out of ideas for the license failure, sorry.
