arcserve 2000 - job engine failed to start (1053)

Hi folks, newbie here.

in thread478-1085913 the recomended solution was to re-install. I would prefer not to do that since I inherited a system where only the original arcserve media exist and I have no idea what patches have been installed or where to get them if i did?

any ideas?

In most cases the cause of this lies in the licensing of ARCserve. Reinstallation will not solve this.
When you check the licenses in 'help-about' from the ARCserve manager, are all installed options licensed properly ??

Check the activity log (\ARCserve\Logs\arcserve.log) for a message about licensing, or the Windows Event Viewer Application log.

But it seems strange that an installed product should all of a sudden be in violation, so perhaps the reinstall is the solution.
