Hi,

I have jsut installed 5 new AS 2000 bckup clients and on one machine the service will not start. That machine does have an old copy of AS6.5 on it. I am not sure if this is relevant. I don't want to take it off until the client works :)

Has anyone any ideas of where to start to fix this?

Best wishes

It's probably a licensing issue.
Had this problem when someone forgot to license a couple of our client agents. In your case it's probably seeing the license for 5.5 and deciding it's wrong.
Check in the Application Event Log immediately after trying to start the service and see if it has anything to say.

Hi Michael,

As Lum indicates it very well could be a licensing issue. If so, go to your Arcserve Server that is currently functional and copy the ca.olf file that resides in the ca_lic license directory on your backup server. Copy this file and put it in the same location on your client agent machine (you should also have a ca_lic directory - usually on your local C:\ drive).

Try and restart the agent and see if that works.

Let me know if I can help further.

I have spoken to tech support and it was a license issue in the sense of a corrupt ca_lic folder. I was told to rename it and run silent.bat from the AS cd.

The folder now contains 19 objects rather than 3!!!

I re-registered the product and it is now fine.

Thanks for the input.

Best wishes
