I am trying to get the Arcserve Backup agent service to start on a Win2k (Sp1) Server box. The service errors out with the following message:
Could not start the Client Agent for ARCserve service on Local Computer. Error 1067: The Process terminated unexpectedly.

Any suggestions?

Need more info. The short answer is all the arcserve 2K agents need to be registered or they fail. Unlike past agents which did not need registration.

Also, all things Arcserve use a license discovery service that detects other copies of the same licenses (illegal dupes, essentially) on your network. So if you for example bought one agents license, installed it on two servers, one will fail and the other will probably not.

Best of all, only about 1/2 the time will arcserve ever tell you there's a licensing problem. Many times you get wonderful "mystery errors" until you fix the problem and then like magic it all starts working.

These people that write this software...should have (use your imagination) done to them many times, with the utmost malice.

I am having the same problem. This box was recently rebooted and was working fine until after the reboot. The server has the correct licensing, which was registered almost 4 months ago.

Arcserver recommended we go through a complete re-registration process, which included renaming the CA_LIC directory. This did not solve the problem.

Anyone esle had this problem and find a solution other than that recommended by CA? Any help is greatly appreciated.

M. Tanner
