Hi everyone.

ARCserve 2000 SP4
Windows 2000 SP3
HP LTO 1/9

I generally get between 350-600MB/Sec on all but 1 remote machine (backing up 15 in total). This machine has 10's of thousands of small files. I get about 60-106MB/sec on this one. This machine stores about 200GB of data so it cuts into my backup windows severly. All the machines are very similar and are on a gigabit back bone and are not being accessed at the time of backup.

I am thinking that changing the buffer size of the client may help but I don't know where or what to change this to.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

HI,

Are you using the NT client agent to backup this machine?

If not use it. this will improve throughput considerably...

cheers

Hi,

Sorry forgot that bit, yes we are using the ARCserve client on all machines. Is there anything I do to increase performance on this machine? Setting Backup priority on the client to HIGH doesn't make any difference.

Thanks,

Matt

It's probably the large amount of small files that causes the slow backup speed. Maybe you can workaround this by using differential/incremental backup schemes for this particular server
