Hi,

Arcserve 2000 SP4 on NT4 SP6 (2 x 600MHz, 512M Ram) with single HP Ultruim 200G Drive on its own SCSI Ultra 3 channel.
Exchange 5.5 on same server
Backing up via AS 2000 client agents 3 other NT4 SP6 servers and Exchange via AS 2000 Exchange agent

History - Arcserve was uninstalled and tape drive moved from one of the networked servers recently. New install was with default settings excluding Inoculate from CD and SP4 installed on top - including remote agents.

Problem - backup speed of file systems on local OR networked servers is only 100M/Min - we would expect at least 300M/min. Speed on the old server was about the same, but that wasn't using the client agents.

As it's slow on local server, it seems agents are not to blame for speed? Compression is not set on tape or on files and there is no file level antivirus software on backup server.

Any ideas??

Update,

We had HP Ultruim driver installed in Control Panel>Tapes. Reading the HP readme, it seems this is not good and limits speed to max 2M/sec with e.g. NTBackup.
Removed driver and rebooted. Arcserve still works (slowly), so where is it getting its tape driver imformation from?? It seems to have got stuck at 100M/min??

Regards

Update 2 - sorted,

Server is Dell PE2450 - updating BIOS and SCSI Ultra 160 driver to latest revision seem to have sorted. Local backup is running at 700M/Min and network at 300M/Min.

Regards
David
