Running ARCServe 2000 on a W2K server, and backing up a remote server NT 4.0 through the ARCServe 2000 Client agent.

ARCServe 2000 - service pack 4, and device service pack applied.

ARCServe 2000 Client - service pack 4 applied.

Windows 2000 - service pack 3 applied

Windows NT 4.0 - service pack 6a, security rollup applied.

Original backup job ran about 2.75 hours for full backup and verify yielding an average of 348 MB/min. Currently on a restore that has been running for 7h 20m with an average of 24.5 MB/min. Still have an estimated 5h 34m remaining.

Approximately 19.5 GB of data in approximately 318,000 files. Backup options of Preserve directory attributes and security information, Create Whole Path for Destination and Restore to Original Location have been selected.

All anti-virus has been turned off.

NT 4.0 Server (ARCServe Client) has 1GB of RAM, dual Xeon 2.2GHz, CPUs are bored. NIC performance indicates an average of 80KB/sec of traffic.

W2K Server (ARCServe) has 512MB of RAM, dual Pentium IIIs 600 MHz. CPUs are bored. NIC performance reflects the same level of activity as on the ARCServe Client Server. SCSI HA - Adaptec 2940U2W, Microsoft supplied driver. Tape device (only device on SCSI chain) is a Tandberg SLR100 with the current firmware revision.

At this point in time if you were to tell me that I would have to stand in the middle of the room and jump around in a circle while hopping around on one leg while reciting the Lord's Prayer backwards, I'd try it.

I can't very well go back to the powers that be and tell them that it would take me 3 DAYS to restore a server should the whole thing crash.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, even if they make me feel like a moron for not trying/thinking of them.

Thanks!
