Hi,

I am running into the much discussed topic of the ARCServe 2000 backup failing to log into VLDB Errors. I am receiving the following error message:

E4101 Unable to login to database engine. (DATABASE=ARCSERVE, EC=-2005)

I have read many responses here and at the ARCserve website with no results. I have all my permissions set up correctly and the database, tape and job engines are all running at the time the backup starts. My last resort would be to reinitialize the database engine but I have read that by doing that it will wipe my media schedule... Is this correct or can someone tell me what will happen if I reinitialize the database engine. Thanks,

jbehrne

If at first you don't succeed, call in an airstrike. - Murphy's Laws of Combat Operations

Initializing the database means that it will be emptied completely. Your media schedule will be as it was because your jobs still exist but the information about which tapes are in scratch or save sets (like all media information) will be gone from the database.
