Hi All,

First, I'm quite new to the ARCServe world so I have to clarify a few things.

As a general rule:
After installing ARCServe 2000 from the CD should I get the latest patches from CA and apply them or just apply the patches when I get into problems?

How can I find out what SP has been applied to an ARCServe installation?

Thank you,
Doina

Use help -> about for build level.

Yes, definitely put on SP's and major patches as a matter of course. Maybe some of the more specific patches can be left off.

Don't even bother to log a call with CA until you are patched to the latest level as that will always be the first suggestion.

Thank you,

It shows Version 7.0 (Build 1018).
When I go to CA, there is a list of Patches/Updates for General/Base Product-ARCServe 2000 for NT that are named like LO99131.CAZ... that seem to be problem/specific.
So, I still don't know where to find the latest patch. I expect to see something like SP1 or 2...

Regards,
Doina

Stop all Arcserve services.
Make a copy of the Arcserve directory, as you may wish to have a REVERT capability, in case patching is of no help, or if it makes things worse (not too likely).
Patch Summary (read this):

Note that in the RIGHT-MOST column, there is a PREREQ reference - PREREQ patches MUST be applied BEFORE applying patches requiring the PREREQ. Also, in general, patches are applied in DATE ORDER - the DATE on the SUMMARY screen is SOMETIMES incorrect - also check the DATE on the PATCH DETAIL PAGE, it is usually correct.

Patching is quite tricky, sometimes you THINK from READING you don't need the patch, but it MAY be a PREREQ for a patch you do need.

!!!!NEVER EVER apply an ARCSERVE WORKGROUP ONLY or ARCSERVE ASO ONLY patch to an ARCSERVE ADVANCED system!!!!!! AN EXAMPLE: *** this patch would be for Arcserve ASO ONLY, never to be applied to ADVANCED or WORKGROUP ARCSERVE -
***** !!!!!!!

Therefore, **** Read EACH of these VERY CAREFULLY ****, make sure they apply for YOUR ENVIRONMENT (Arcserve Advanced Vs. Arcserve Workgroup vs. Arcserve ASO, NT2K vs. NT4, etc), then apply: (do not worry about SYMPTOMS corrected by the patch, if the patch is for your product level, apply it)
(This is a tricky patch - You apply the baseline SP2, then you must manually select the remaining patches, such as agents, options, etc. - ** READ the INCLUDED SP2 DETAILED INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY - THEY CAN BE ACCESSED FROM THE INSTALLER SPLASH SCREEN ***)
Then put these on:

Look at all of the AGENT and DATABASE patches too, you may need to apply those as well.

Note that this advice does not apply for a storage area network (fibre channel) system.

The SPECIFIC patches I reference here are for the base product, and should be considered for all basic Arcserve installs.

Let me know how it goes.
Sincerely, Jim P. Ames

I am running ASO 7.0 Build 1067 on Windows NT 4.0 SP6a and when I try to modify a job on the job queue, I get a Dr. Watson in asmgr.exe Does anyone out there have a suggestion on why this is happening? I submitted an issue to CA, but have not gotten a response yet.
