I am running Arcserver 2000 over a san to a tape library that has 16 drives. We recently replaced one of the distributed servers(Compaq DL 1600) with a new Compq DL 380 G2. Now if I run 4 jobs at one time we will get the following error E3711 unable to open session maximum devices reached. What can be done to fix this error?

First try removing the distributed server, then rejoining. If that doesn't work,

Try this :

Record all slot/group info (you will have to redefine later)

Bring down the tape engine on the Primary and Distributed server(s).
Purge the Arcserve tapeengine key from the Primary and Distributed server. (HKLM\Software\ComputerAssociates\ArcserveIT\Base\TapeEngine)
Bring up tape engine on Primary, then Distributed.
Redefine groups/slots - test.

It sounds like one of the servers in the SAN is maintaining duplicate copies of the hardware, thus exceeding the max?

Something worth trying anyway, it has helped us in the past.
