Hi there,

Currently we are experiancing the following problem with our single exchange 2k server and arcserve.

We are running arcserve on the same server and all our backups are being flaged as incomplete due to the following error: W3404 ..... Unable to open file. File not found.

It does seem to be related to exchange as the listed files are all mail messages, contacts etc.

Any help would be mst appreciated.

Regards and Thanks.

Sounds like your doing a 'snapshot backup' but I don't see why? Anyway, for it to be a dynamic backup the little green box above the mailbox should be colored entirely green, if it is half green then any changes will not be taken into account and as such if a message is deleted then it will complain that it can't be found. Color in the box full green. At least, I think that is what the issue is.

I unfortunately am no arcserve guru so don't have a clue if we are doing a snapshot backup but I have had a look and e are definitely not doing a brick by brick backup and there may be some duplication as the admin has got both the drive marked for backups and the information stores. This may be correct but it doesn't seem right to me.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Cheers

ARCserve for NT does not backup open and active files. When ARCserve encounters open files, the W3404 warning message will be returned.

NOTE: If ARCserve encounters just one open file resulting in the W3404 error, your backup will be reported as incomplete.

There are several ways to handle this: The open file agent will backup open files and active files.
