I have Arcserve 2000 Advanced SP2 installed on a Windows 2000 SP2 box. I have Exchange 2000 SP1 on another box with the Exchange Agent installed. I often have the problem of the backup just hanging in the middle of the backup. It never finishes. If I try to stop it, it says its stopping but it never does. I need to reboot the server to get it to stop. The only thing that changed when it happened this time is I added another user to the email alert for the backup. Now I cannot get it to do the backup. CA's support doesn't seem to be able to help.

Are you running any type of exchange antivirus? And is there any errors in the arcserve activity logs?

could you install sp3 on the arcserve server and the exchange server, and then apply patch qo06202.caz to the exchange agent. This should bring you up to the latest builds, and should solve any brick level problems.
