I've always been an arcserve user (boss tried me on backup exec but I never took to it), however recently something has gone very wrong, and the time taken to to a backup has slowed to a crawl (quadrupled in time). I'm almost wondering if some sort of windows update has messed it up.

My night time backup has gone from 5 hours max to 18 hours.

I'm using LTO2 annd 3 drives, and the servers are Dell Poweredge 2900's with Broadcom Xtreme NIC's. They are running on a GB backbone. I've had a look round the internet and tried turning off TOE on the cards but it doesn't seem to have made the slightest bit of difference.

If anyone has any other suggestions, please do post.

Just a quick update. I've narrowed it down to a problem on one server. If I backup (or use copy in Arcserve), to copy/backup data from my desktop PC (for example) the speed is about 300mb/minute.

A similar sized folder from the dodgy server for the same type of operation is only managing about 35mn/minute.

I thought at first I had two server affected, but now I know it's just because one was trying to back data up off the 'dodgy' one.

So I'm happy that it's one server, but any tips as to what it could be on there would be very much apreciated.

It was TOE on the servers Broadcom NIC. When I turned TOE off, it was fine :) Not sure why it went like that suddenly but it's ok now :)
