Arcserve 11.1 Crashing on Win2003 server

Hi all,

Please help.
I had Arcserve 11.1 installed on a Windows 2003 server (Sp1 patched) however, when clicking on 'Backup' or 'Restore' shortcuts from the main menu, the program hangs.

To get round this, I have patched Arcserve to SP1 and also installed the post SP1 update. However, it was still crashing when clicking on certain shortcuts.

I then removed the program (clearing the registry as best I could) and deleted the program directory(s). Then reinstalled and patched the program again.
Still no joy however.

I think it may be something to do with the database, however I am unsure how to get round it. Should I go for SQL database rather than the standard Arcserve database if I cant find a solution here?

Many thanks. :)

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I had already installed 4 of the patches from that page.
NT -WINDOWS 2003 SP 1 SUPPORT UPDATE SP1
NT -BAB R11.1 SERVICE PACK 1 - ENGLISH
NT -DATABASE AGENT SECURITY UPDATE - R11.1
and
NT -DISCOVERY SERVICE SECURITY VULNERABILITY
Though had no joy..
Still hanging.
I can get into the backup and restore pages if I stop the engines. However, it tries to start the tape engine and eventually crashes.

Thanks

I dont think we had media in the drive when we were checking this. However, I didnt think this made a difference - you should still be able to browse the different sections of the job manager etc.

Any suggestions?
DB or tape drive problems??

Oh.. I have tried installing the client management utilities on a desktop PC to connect to the server. It crashes on that also. :(

Many thanks,

NP

Looks like database corruption - since opening some of the GUI page requires information from the DB, this might be why it 'hangs'. Check the FAQs here or on CA's supportconnect site for information on how to fix it.

Bear it in mind that the program (and database) has been stripped off the server and reinstalled twice. Surely this would have recreated the database?

In any case, I have tried to reinitialize the database. However, it freezes when doing so.

Thanks.

NP

Aww crap...

Looks like the problem was an Environmental variable (RNNAME) in Windows that was left over from the previous machine name. That was why I missed it when I cleaned out the registry.

I changed it to the new server name and it works with no problems now..

Thanks for your help.
