Hi,

We have ArceServe2000 SP3 running on Windows 2000 SP2.

We backup 1 Netware server running Netware 5 via the ArcServe NW Agent SP3. We add the agent and it backs up fine for a few days then we get the error:

E8511 Failed to Connect with client agent (ADDRESS=y_host(my_host)
E8512 Invalid client agent address format

One strange thing is that after the first error line it gives the machine name of the Netware client but it is missing the first letter of the machine name. I.E. the machine name is my_host but it says it can't find y_host.

We delete and add the agent again and it works for a few days then it goes again. It can work for 5 days or 1 day, there is no set pattern.

Does anyone have any ideas? I am reluctant to install SP4 after hearing other peoples problems with it and Netware agents.

Thanks,

Matt

I had similiar problems with my Novell servers. It'll back up for days and randomly it'll get the error message E8511 Failed to Connect with client agent. I would have to unload the agent and reload the agent and it'll work for awhile and it'll fail again.

I've installed this patch on July 7 and it haas not failed since (knock on wood). You could give it a try.
Please download and apply the following patch ( NWagent Patch )
URL :
I've also set these configuration on the server.
Set the following under NWagent configuration :
Tx Threshold -32
64KB Buffer size -32
USE SMS LOGIC FOR DOS AND MAC - YES

Good luck!
