I am having trouble getting rman to work on a remote server. The rman script does not seem able to find the tape drive which is on my rman arcserv server. I have installed the arcserv client agent + rman oracle agent on my client networked server. All these servers are NT servers. When I run an rman script on my arcserv server for the database that lives on there everything works fine. But when a similar script is run on the networked server for the database on the networked server the device sbt_tape cannot be found by the mml.

Sounds like the Oracle server cannot load the orasbt.dll module, which is part of the agent. Here are a few things to check:

1. orasbt.dll exists in your X:\WINNT\system32 directory.
2. Only one orasbt.dll module exists on that machine. All others should be renamed.
3. You only have one version of Oracle on the machine
4. The RMAN configuration can only be configured to use a single ARCserve server at one time. Make sure that you have provided all of the necessary information and that it is correct.
5. Find out what messages are in the dbaora8.log file
