Archiving with 11.5 SP2

When I run an a job to archive files, the directories where deleted as well as the files, I use an exclude file modified after and on 01/08/2006, is there a way to get the archive job to leave the directory structure in place.

Any help would be appreciated as this has wiped out a lot of shared directories from our san.
