Archiving Outlook 2007

i need to archive pst file because its becoming too large ... i tried the archive option in outlook it just separated some emails in a tab called archived emails but the original pst folder remained the same size ...

i tried to create a new personal folder and move items to it but also remained the same size

also i need to archive emails from folders

so what i wanna actually do is ... archive emails that is already in folders and archive them by year and reduce the original pst file size

Did you compact it after moving the messages?

yes , didnt change anything ... can it be done without outter softwares ?

If the archive will open in Outlook, you could write some rules to move messages from one pst to another.
