Hi,

Has any one come across an Archive tool for macola, We have a lot of redundant info we wish to archive to reduce the database size, speed up backups and general running etc.

Regards
Andrew

Are you using the Pervasive or MS SQL version of Macola?

What else might you mean by "tidying up the database" besides purging old data?

Sorry dgillz I should have said at the start, we are running 7.6.200i SQL.

"tidy up the database" is just a turn of phrase.

We are looking to move old data if possible to an archive database and then purge the old data.

Andrew, there is 7.6.200 on MSSQL & 7.6.200 on pervasive 2000iSQL. I'm confused. What I usually do in your situation is copy the entire bloated db, whether pvsw or mssql to a new db (MSSQL) or folder (PVSW). Then I purge the current db down to bare bones. In pervasive, you must rebuild or bmaintenance the files to shrink the empty space. In MSSQL, the db maintenance utility should handle downsizing the physical size. You might also purge or intialize unnessary, overhead, audit files in the history company to maximize disc space & avoid backups that go onto multiple tapes. Yuck. Once a history company is created, you must periodically archive off the specific records from the live company to the history db. This can be done via import, text edit, etc & by DTS in SQL, tho I am not a huge fan of this technique. If you need more details, please elaborate.
