OK, since Legato tech support is bad, I am looking to the smart techie peers out there to help me out on this one :-)

Situation: I want to archive all data older than 3 years on a file server and once all of the data that is older than 3 years is archived, I want a groom job to delete this data. Now, I ONLY want the data that is older than 3 years archived and deleted via a groom job, NOTHING ELSE.

Problem: On a Windows NT 4 platform, I have tried the UI to do this. Once I mark the folder that I want archived, I start the archive and it archives ALL of the data inside AND grooms everything in the folder (i.e. deletes all of it!). Some of this data isn't even 3 years old, but is still being archived and groomed (i.e. deleted!)

WHAT I WANT: I just want this friggin software to identify files that are older then 3 years old, archive them, and them groom them - only files that are 3 years and older!
Am I missing something here? ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Sounds like you want more of an HSM product. Archive can't tell what age a file has HSM will, but HSM will leave a stub file on the Filesystem so that it can be easily recalled when accessed by an end user. Legato has an HSM product for NT, take a look at it.
