Archiving and space saving techniques

Can anyone offer suggestions on conserving space on an AS/400 running Domino 5.12 with Win 98 clients. I'd like to be able to do some of the following:

-Strip attachments but ask first.
-run an agent that will "Archive" content of users archive folders.
-"zip" (This could even be viewed as compression) contents of user files or attachments.

Any way these are just some ideas I had. I am open to any and all ideas.
