Hi,

My company is looking for a solution that will enable us to archive raw EDI data and search withing that data for specific documents using special keys, e.g. ISA number, BOL number, PO number, etc.

The tool can be seperated from the translator or integrated in a complete solution. However, it has to be able to search documents at least for the last 3 years (a lot of data!).

Is any one using such a tool? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

There have been a number of database products that allow searches within a CLOB type field. This might be your best solution. Archiving and searching is best done with a product specifically designed to do this, rather than an EDI tool. Depending on your volume, this can get to be huge dataset. You might want to map out key (important) fields in the raw data to separate columns to speed up the search.

Ascential's products can process the EDI data and write what is needed to almost any ODBC compliant DB </Advertisement>

My company keeps about 2-3 years of EDI data available. At the moment, we are not using any tool. The data is saved in a hierarchical structure by year/month. Each month's data is in it's own directory. When looking for a specific document, we first use our database to determine the date this document was transmitted. We then do key-word searches using either the unix grep command or windows find tool. Not fancy, but it works. Only downside is that regular users can't access, only IT personnel.
