Archive.pst not opening

A user recently copied his archive.pst to an external HDD and went and 'burned' it on a DVD while someone else was logged on. Now he can't access this archive.pst from the DVD - Access is Denied - yet it is accessible when u copy it back to the HDD. Can anyone help me in figuring out why this is the case. The archive.pst is not password protected.
The user is running Windows XP SP2 and Outlook 2003.

DVD's and CDR's are read-only.

Outlook requires write access to the file - even for just viewing of items within.
