Archive filed ontape -s problem

HPUX11.0 w/Informix curr ver

Ontape -s (which I've used for past year) now fails before allowing archive level:
"Please enter the level of archive to be performed(0,1,2). Archive failed - function invalid. Archive level failed code -1 errno 0 Program over."

Thank you in advance for any pointers or ideas.

To add insult to injury, ontape -s works okay from my terminal but errors out on the console. Weird!

Check you environment variables.
Some variables are not set through the console.
Check INFORMIXDIR and make sure the $INFORMIXDIR/bin is included in your PATH.
