Archive bit not being cleared

I'm running Arcserve 6.61 on my NT 4.0 servers and I occassionaly notice that the incremental jobs are backing up way too much. So I end up doing a full NT backup to clear the archive bits and this fixes the problem. The arcserve job is set to do a full (clearing the archive bit)once a week and incrementals the rest of the week.
Is there another way around clearing the archive bit?? I have the same problem on other servers as well.
