ARC2000 for Windows will not merge into database

Before purchasing the Full version from ARCserve 2000 for Windows I am testing the trialcopy now.
I testing the ARCserve2000 Advanced Edition and also the Netware Agent for back-up our Netware Server.
A scheduled a back-upjob with the Servers I want to back-up and that works fine.
ARCserve makes a back-up from the desired Servers.
ARCserve puts the CATfiles into the TEMP directory but when the job is finished ARCserve will not mege the CATfiles into the database.
When I use Mergecat.exe for merging the files it will do it for me but not automatic.
What went wrong? Why will ARCserve2000 not merge the CATfiles itself?
The Server is Windows NT4.0 with Servicepack 6a.
ARCserve2000 is updated with Servicpack4.
Anyone any ideas please??

Any information in the activity log about accessing the ARCserve database ??
Setup the right options for recording detail information into the database ??
Just a thougt : have you thougt about ARCserve 9 for Windows instead of ARCserve 2000 ?? My experiences with v9 up to now are very satisfying.
