Guys

We are planning to put an IBM dedup device in an Arc Serv environment . This IBM dedup device will present LTO-2 emulated drives to CA.

My question is that whether CA Arc Serv r12 supports VTL? Second if we do have a physical tape library in existing environment , can CA Arc Serv move data from VTL to physical tape library cartridges?
I mean do CA Arc serv support data movement between VTL and physical tape libraries?

Thanks in advance

Polani,

ARCserve r12.5 supports both VTL's as movement to physical tape libraries.

Yes, 12.5 supports both vtl and data migration. There is a specific tab where you can define the policy of data migration that you need. Of course the moved data -are not- deduplicated, so keep in mind that the tape (vtl) to tape (phisical) data migration will always take more time than you expect :)

You can also deduplicate without vtl, because 12.5 supports deduplication on filesystems too. This is very useful, because you can add "free" (at disk space cost) deduplication device in a blink of an eye.
