Guys

I am newbie for Arc serv solutions and about to configure a VTL with data dedup solution with Arc serv.

My question is that if i do backup from Arc Serv ( V12 on windows 2003) to a VTL ( with hardware dedup ), will Arc serv have the capability to move the data from VTL to physical tape library?

Another problem is that VTL emulates LTO-2 tape drives while physical library have LTO-3 tape drives? will it impose any problem with Arc serv backups?

Please advice

Regards

well first off as an instructor lets start with the name. It is ARCserve.

Again as an instructor, which means you will be instructing others it really would be a good idea to read the documentation, starting with Staging.

#2 - no problem, ARCserve can handle it.

hi,

Thanks for sharing information... and i am shocked with information that so called "staging" is a licensed feature... it seems to me a miserable fact that while almost every backup vendor is providing this kind of common feature of writing backups to disk and then to tape as free , CA still wants to earn money out of this common requirement?

Is it really true that i can not write CA backups to VTL unless i have this so called " disk to disk to tape" license on CA?

please clarify...

thanks

save the attitude for some other place and keep this to technical stuff unless you want to loose me.

bkup to vtl works without staging

Hi

I am sorry that you mind it but my question was clear and i still think that CA is still charging too many features which are free in other backup products...

But may be in basic features CA is cheaper than others
