Apps run slow in overseas office

We recently had a guest from our London office.
They use our access apps on the network. They tell me its unbelievably slow loading and running.
Is there anything I can do to achieve faster response time.
What do you guys do that support apps in overseas offices?

We use a SQL Server DB and have a couple of Access front ends for people to use. This however may still not resolve your problem if it's the network that's at fault.
