Approach hides Smarticons

It isn't normal. If it were the same view every time I would suspect a scipt is running on SwitchTo but if it's intermittent then Approach is probably a bit sensitive to your video adapter.
Another possibility is if you've changed the Context setting in SmartIcons setup for a particular bar that displays on a particular view type. The Default bar should have a context of Always.
