This is my first post in the PS section..hello all.
I am looking for a similar feature to the transform pallette in Illustrator. I want my guides in PS to be set for very specific measurements..i.e. 12.471" decimal inches. I can do this in Illustrator and I love the precision. Also, placing tiffs into AI I need images to line up perfect with copy typeset in AI. I think you get what I amm saying. Evan if I can't control the guides, if I could just snap one side of an image to a percise x or y cordinate? That would do the job. Thanx for your time!

View-->Show (grid..guidelines...etc)
View-->Snap...
View-->Lock...
will get you there!
All the best!

ok...let me clarify what I think you mean:

1. Show grid & guides
2. then use snap to grid.
3. I think by lock you mean to unlock the guides so they can be moved.

So I did all that. & here are my problems.

1. in order to use "snap to grid for precision" you can only set the grid to minimum measurements of .0625" which isn't bad once you know that, however I would love to be able to snap to .010"

2. as you drag the guide it does snap roughly to the grid but more so to the rulers, and when zoomed in this small there are no numbers associated with the rulers.

Like I said ideally the function to mimic is the transform box in Illustrator...(select the guide & type in the exact number) i might be asking too much from PS..and that's fine...I just was really wishing for this function.

see what you think? Thanks for the advice!

In PS7 go to Preferences/Guides, Grid & Slices.
Set gridline every .1 inches, subdivisions 10.
This will give you the degree of precision you require.
To see 100 divisions you need to zoom in.
To set a guide line to exact precision zoom in and move the guide across whilst watching the INFO pallette. You will see the exact x/y position. The closer you zoom, the more accurate the guides can be placed. Switch off Snap to Grid and the guides can be placed at smaller increments than the grid divisions.

You can also go to VIEW / NEW GUIDE and type in the number for vertical or horizontal position.

Thank you so much! I can't wait to give it a run. "new guide" function is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
