Applying patches (sp4)

So, aside from backing up the database before I start, is there anything I should do before applying SP4? I've been trudging along encountering this error and that error all the while assuming that I was running SP4 and come to find out I'm not. So, I need to update a live server that serves as part of a web backend. Do I need to bring it down to single user mode before applying SP4 or can I just apply the service pack as is?

you can apply it just as is.

OK, that was waht Iw as thinking, but I figure better safe than sorry. Again, thank you for your help. I'm hoping this will help with some of the Log Shipping Issues I have been running into.
