Applying 2 separate colour fills to 1 area. (in CS2 illustrator)

I have a shape that I wish to split equally into 2 different adjoining colours

Can this be done with the fill tool? If not how should it be done?

LIVE PAINT!

Draw an unfilled, unstroked path across the shape where you want the colors to separate, select shap and path, go to Object>Live Paint>Make, set the fill color for one portion, get the Live Paint bucket tool, click on the area (it will get a fat red fringe when you're on target). Set the other color, and repeat for the other area.

After doing this, you can still manipulate the object and the line, and the fills will adjust. When you are ready to break the whole thing apart, go to Object>Live Paint>Expand. You don't have to, though, it works perfectly while "live".
