I'm trying to update the list of banned websites in Group Policy, under User configuration/Windows Settings/IE Maintenance/Security/Security Zones & content ratings

I click 'Modify settings'under content ratings and enter my password

Under 'Approved sites' I enter the URL's I wish to be blocked and click 'ok'

I'm then back at the main 'Security zones & content ratings screen' - the apply button is greyed out

I click 'ok' and refresh Group policy using secedit

When I go back and check, the list of blocked sites hasn't updated

I've tried this on a few different DC's and an XP client and the same thing occurs

Event viewer tells me that the policy has been applied successfully..

Any ideas?

Its because you had different settings before...teh pol file that applies first is the one that is ALWAYS effective. This means, any settings in a higher level policy would overwrite a lower level policy (which normally works the other way around). Delete the .pol file from teh actual, physical group policy folder in sysvol, then gpupdate /force the client systems, then recreate the internet settings in the policy and reapply policy. that should do the trick.
