We have a filesystem in use (non rootvg) that now
requires LFE. Is there an alternative to backing up
the data, deleteing, re-creating and restoring the
filesystem???? Good or bads news accepted........

Using aix 4.3.2.

Thanks in Advance!

Having just been through this I found the answer is "NO".

In fact, we wanted the /usr filesystem LFE and could NOT accomplish that. IBM Austin recommended a separate filesystem mounted where we wanted it. So we created one mounted on /usr/??? and it works fine. System treats it as a sub-directory of /usr.

To load we backed up our data and its subdirectories with find|backup to tape; rm'ed the filesystem; built a new one of the same name with LFE; restored the data from the tape; and all is well.

Good luck.
