I have an application running on Solaris 8 on a variety of Sun (SPARC) ruggedized laptops. Ruggedized PCs are about half the price, so I'm investigating the possibility of upgrading to Solaris 10x86/64.

I realize that my application will have to be re-tested, but as a ball park "swag", do applications running on Solaris for SPARC always/most of the time/some of the time/rarely/never work on Solaris x86/64 versions?

Thanks,

Phil

Is there a version of the software available for x86 at all? Or do you compile from source code?

You need to have binaries for the CPU architecture you are running on.
