Hello,
My ReForm form generating software will not function after the installation of the 5.0.7 upgrade. The ReForm software is expecting the OS to have the same serial number that it was serialized with, and will not function without a new activation key. The installation of 5.0.7 required the
upgrade serial number, so now uname -X reports the upgrade serial number, not the original serial number. The company that wrote the ReForm software (X-Point Corp) is no longer in business. The company that bought them out no longer sells this software and wants a $1000.00 dollars just to give me a new activation key over the phone. What a crock ! Is there any way to make the new OS report the same serial number as the old version. I think a $1000 for an activation key to software I bought and paid a pretty penny for 10 years ago is next to theft !

Thanks in advance !
Rob

Yes there is a patch available that will allow 5.0.7 to accept previous serial numbers.

oss656
ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/oss656b

this patch has been superceded by maintenance pack 1.
so installing either should solve your problem.

Hello Again,
Thank you for the reply. I should have posted this information to begin with. I have installed OSS656a which is the brand update to no avail. I will download the OSS656b that you recommended. Maybe the later version of the OSS will work correctly. Will post the results to the forum later tonight.

Again
Thanks for the reply
Rob

Odds are if you push hard enough the software company will cave on the $1000 fee. Of course that really depends on the original software licensing agreement.

What OS version did you upgrade from, and why?

I upgraded my server a couple years ago, and the company who provides my database software charged me a $500 fee to "validate" the new sever. In other words I did all the work of the upgrade and then paid them $500 to say that it had been a success. Their justification for this was that I had not bought the new hardware "through them", so they "didn't know" if it would be compatible. All they did was dial in and poke around for 10 minutes, and this was all done after their software was installed, re-activated, and had been in live production for two weeks.

Hello,
I installed the maintenance pack 1 and have the same results. The system sn# is the same as the upgrade sn # not the original sn #. On top of that the system is now just licensed for 5 users.

The main reason for going to 5.0.7 from 5.0.5 is the support for the new processors, other than that I wouldn't consider it sinse my 5.0.5 has been running well. I would be nice if SCO would just add the CPU support to 5.0.5.

Of course I havn't been testing this upgrade on my production machine, that's a total no-no.

Any suggestions would be helpful !

Thanks,
Rob

now that you have installed the update....rebrand it for your original serial number......(remove 5.0.7 licence, ignore warnings...add 5.0.5 licence)

Hello,
I have tried all of the suggestions with no luck. I have installed the service pack 1. When I remove the 5.0.7 license and install my old licenses I get warnings that the policy manager deamon has stopped and the OS is in a unlicensed state. I think that this license update applies only to user licenses and optional software such as SMP and VDM, but I don't know that for a fact. I appreciate all the suggestions though. One thing I am considering is getting a 5.0.6 media kit , I believe that the CPU support has been added to 5.0.6 and all of the licenses for my 5.0.5 will work. Anyone have any experience with this ?

Thanks
Rob

I found this on SCO's website. It is the letter wich describes the OSS brand update.

ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/oss656b/oss656b.ltr

It states that it will allow you to use your previous user and cpu license, but not your previos OS license. I think I am just SOL on this issue.

Thanks for all the input
Rob

5.0.6 is OK for pentium 4, provided you install rs506a.

is there anyting OS licence in SCO ? i always thought it is auser licence. and the base OS comes with a 5 user licence for Enterprise and 2 user licence for desktop
