I am trying to set up a HP LaserJet 5M to work from our Macs--which means either ethernet or wireless. Either are going to need Appletalk to be enabled. I have installed the latest HP driver; I have the computers configured as they were when they successfully drove our dear departed Apple Laserwriter Pro 630. (Free to a good home.) But NOTHING! Well, the printer will print its self-tests. One of which advises that "Appletalk is disabled." Duh!

Does anyone know hoew I can change that situation?

Thanks in advance for anything.

On the printer itself, in the menus, you can enable or disable half a dozen protocols including Appletalk.

If you're using OS X, then just use ther TCP/IP printing. If you need AppleTalk, then go into the I/O menu, and tell it you want to configure the settings, and enable it.
